Regular Season Round 12: Halc.Rojos - Gansos 107-76
Date: November 2, 2013
Bottom-ranked Gansos (0-12) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 107-76 loss to second ranked Halcones Rojos (8-2) in Veracruz on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. Halcones Rojos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They were well out of reach of Gansos shooting 71.9 percent from the field and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Halcones Rojos forced 19 Gansos turnovers and outrebounded them 26-15 including a 23-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Dominican swingman James Maye (201-81, college: NC-Greensboro) who helped to win the game recording 21 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) and American point guard Mike Mitchell (181-83, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Two Points) who added 18 points and 4 assists during the contest. Five Halcones Rojos players scored in double figures. Halcones Rojos' coach Oscar Castellanos felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American CamRon Clay (203-82) with 24 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import guard Harrison Smith (190, college: Texas Southern) scored 13 points. Halcones Rojos maintains second position with 8-2 record behind leader Abejas. Loser Gansos still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Halcones Rojos will meet Lechugueros (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gansos will play against Angeles (#11) in Acapulco and hope to get finally their first victory.
