Regular Season Round 8: Riviera Gdynia - Gorzow 73-76

A very interesting game took place in Gdynia. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 9th ranked Riviera Gdynia (1-7) to seventh ranked AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski (3-5) 76-73 on Saturday evening. It looked good early as Riviera Gdynia took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski had a 20-16 second period charge getting the lead and Riviera Gdynia was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-76. The best player for the winners was American Taber Spani (182-91, college: Tennessee) who scored 25 points. The former international center Izabela Piekarska (195-85, college: UTEP) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. American center Danielle Wilson (190-88, college: Dowling, agency: Merit Management Group) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and Ukrainian swingman Krystyna Matsko (182-91) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski maintains seventh position with 3-5 record. Riviera Gdynia lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with seven games lost. AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked MKS Konin (#10) at home. Riviera Gdynia will play against Basket ROW in Rybnik and hope to win that game.
