Regular Season Round 4: Gran Canaria - Zamora 61-57

Date: November 2, 2013
Bottom-ranked Zamarat (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 61-57 loss to fourth ranked Gran Canaria (3-1) in Las Palmas. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-11. But Zamarat won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Gran Canaria won last quarter 16-13. The winners were led by American guard Brittany Chambers (173-91, college: Kansas St.) who scored that evening 23 points and the other American import forward Chelsea Davis (188-90, college: Florida St.) supported her with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Even a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds by guard Maria Ylenia Manzanares (175-83) did not help to save the game for Zamarat. American guard Nadirah McKenith (170, college: St.John's) added 11 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Gran Canaria moved-up to second place, which they share with Rivas Ecopolis and Bembibre. Zamarat at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Gran Canaria's next round opponent will be Socinsa Bembibre (#4) on the road. Zamarat will play against Jopisa Burgos (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
