Regular Season Round 4: PAOK - Apollon Patras 78-74
Date: November 3, 2013
No shocking result in a game when top-ranked PAOK (4-0) beat 6th ranked Apollon Patras (2-2) in Thessaloniki 78-74 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Apollon Patras won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. PAOK made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Apollon Patras was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for power forward Mihalis Tsairelis (207-88) who helped to win the game recording 19 points. American Mark Payne (202-88, college: Cal-Davis) contributed with 17 points for the winners. PAOK's coach Soulis Markopoulos used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Demarius Bolds (190-84, college: Missouri Western) replied with 27 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Joseph Taylor (205-85, college: Wyoming) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Apollon Patras. PAOK have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Olympiacos. Loser Apollon Patras keeps the sixth place with two games lost. PAOK will face league's leader Olympiacos in Athens in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Apollon Patras will play at home against AGOR (#3) and hope to win that game.
