Regular Season Round 9: Handlova - Prievidza 60-74

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Handlova (4-4) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Prievidza (4-4) 74-60 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Prievidza. Handlova managed to win third quarter 13-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Croatian swingman Marko Batina (198-86) stepped up and scored 23 points for the winners and British swingman Paul Guede (195-87, college: Portland St., agency: Interperformances) chipped in 10 points and 6 assists. Prievidza's coach Krunoslav Krajnovic used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was the former international Tomas Mrvis (200-91) with 14 points and 5 assists and Montenegrin-Serbian center Milovan Savic (205-87) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Prievidza moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Handlova. Prievidza will meet bottom-ranked Nova Ves (#9) on the road in the next round. Handlova will play against the league's leader Nitra (#1) and hope to secure a win.
