Regular Season Round 8: Haukar - Keflavik 92-61

Undefeated Keflavik (7-1) recorded its first loss in Hafnarfjordur on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by fourth ranked Haukar (4-4) 92-61. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Keflavik. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 14-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 92-61. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Keflavik's 36. They outrebounded Keflavik 51-26 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Haukar looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Keflavik's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Haukar made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Lele Hardy (182-88, college: Clemson) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 21 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Guard Margret Halfdanardottir (173-94) chipped in 23 points and 5 assists. The former international forward Bryndis Gudmundsdottir (178-88) produced 19 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Porsche Landry (155-89, college: Houston) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Haukar maintains fourth position with 4-4 record, which they share with Hamar. Defending champion Keflavik still keeps top place with one game lost. Haukar is looking forward to face Njardvik (#7) on the road in the next round. Keflavik will play against Grindavik (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
