Regular Season Round 5: IR - Valur 99-92

Bottom-ranked Valur is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to eighth ranked IR (2-3) 99-92 on Thursday evening. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 59-48 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. IR looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when IR made 9 blocks. Point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (185-94, college: Flagler) orchestrated the victory with a triple-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals. American forward Terry Leake (193-91, college: Delta St.) contributed with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 7 blocks for the winners. Guard Runar Ingi Erlingsson (187-89) answered with 23 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and American forward Chris Woods (195-89, college: Pfeiffer) added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Valur. Four Valur players scored in double figures. IR maintains eighth place with 2-3 record, which they share with Snaefell. Valur lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. IR will face Snaefell (#9) in Stykkisholmur in the next round. Valur will play at home against Thor Thorl and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
