Regular Season Round 7: Angers - Tarbes 67-64

Angers' fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after six consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as they edged much higher ranked Tarbes (2-5) 67-64 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-16. But Tarbes won second period 18-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for Canadian forward Lizanne Murphy (185-84, college: Hofstra) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. Croatian center Iva Sliskovic (190-84, college: S.Carolina) accounted for 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Four Angers players scored in double figures. Angers' coach David Girandiere used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. point guard Joyce Cousseins-Smith (165-88) came up with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and Ukrainian-Bulgarian center Viktoria Mircheva (190-87) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Tarbes in the defeat. Angers (1-6) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Tarbes dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Mondeville and Nice. Angers will meet Nantes Reze (#13) on the road in the next round. Tarbes will play against the league's second-placed Lyon (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
