There was no surprise when 9th ranked Shimane Magic (1-8) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (7-4) 70-59 on Saturday. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh) who scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Deshawn Stephens (203-89, college: San Diego St.) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Four Hamamatsu Phoenix players scored in double figures. Hamamatsu Phoenix's coach Tomoya Higashino used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) produced 17 points and 5 assists and center Jeral Davis (216-84) added 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for the hosts. Hamamatsu Phoenix have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Niigata Albirex. Loser Shimane Magic keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. Hamamatsu Phoenix will have a break next round. Shimane Magic will play again against the league's second-placed Hamamatsu Phoenix (#2) and hope to win that game.
