Regular Season Round 13: Toyota Alvark - Toshiba BT 65-73

An interesting game for Toshiba Thunders (11-2) which played road game in Tokyo against their biggest opponent Toyota Alvark (8-5). First ranked Toshiba Thunders managed to get a 8-point victory 73-65. It looked good early as Toyota Alvark took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Toshiba Thunders had a 17-14 second period charge getting the lead and Toyota Alvark was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-73. It was a great shooting night for Toshiba Thunders especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 58.8 percentage. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. International swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) chipped in 16 points. American forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) produced 12 points and 8 rebounds and international power forward Kosuke Takeuchi (206-85) added 10 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Toshiba Thunders. They maintain first place with 11-2 record. Defending champion Toyota Alvark keeps the second position with five games lost. Toshiba Thunders will have a break next round. Toyota Alvark will play again at home against the league's leader Toshiba Thunders and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
