Regular Season Round 4: Maccabi Tbilisi - Armia 72-116
Date: November 9, 2013
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tbilisi: Armia (#1) and Maccabi Tbilisi (#8). Maccabi Tbilisi was smashed at home by 44 points 72-116 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game without a history. Armia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Maccabi Tbilisi's 32. Armia forced 19 Maccabi Tbilisi turnovers and outrebounded them 51-33 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Armia players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Maccabi Tbilisi's players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Giorgi Jgerenaia (206-90, college: N.Georgia) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 8 rebounds and international center Giorgi Sharabidze (210-90) who added 23 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Armia players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Levan Revazashvili (207-92) responded with 31 points and 7 rebounds and center Giorgi Periashvili (210-91) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Armia have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Newly promoted Maccabi Tbilisi still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Rustavi. Armia's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Olimpi.
