Regular Season Round 12: Akita NH - Sendai 89ers 105-82

Undefeated leader Akita Happinets delivered the twelfth consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they crushed 8th ranked Sendai 89ers (3-9) 105-82. The game was mostly controlled by Akita Happinets. Sendai 89ers managed to win fourth quarter 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Sendai 89ers 43-26 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Akita Happinets shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of American swingman Richard Roby (198-85) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Shigehiro Taguchi (184-90) who added 21 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from downtown making all seven shots !!!) during the contest. Akita Happinets' coach Kazuo Nakamura felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Wendell Wendell (198-84, college: UNLV) with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import Travele Travel (203-88, college: Texas Southern) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Five Akita Happinets and four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Akita Happinets (12-0) have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 12 victories in a row. Loser Sendai 89ers keep the eighth place with nine games lost. Akita Happinets will meet Iwate Big Bulls (#4) on the road in the next round. Sendai 89ers will play against Tokyo Cinq R. (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
