Regular Season Round 5: Nea Kifisia - Panathinaikos 65-88
Date: November 10, 2013
Very expected game in Athens where 11th ranked Nea Kifisia (1-4) was crushed by third ranked Panathinaikos (4-1) 88-65 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Nea Kifisia was better in fourth quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panathinaikos shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 55.6 percentage. American guard Ramel Curry (191-80, college: CSU Bakersfield) stepped up and scored 18 points and 4 assists for the winners and the former international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84) chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds. American swingman Tony Crocker (201-87, college: Oklahoma) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and Serbian-Bosnian point guard Sasa Vasiljevic (183-79, agency: Beo Basket) scored 13 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Panathinaikos. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with PAOK and Panionios. Nea Kifisia lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Panathinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panionios.
