There was no surprise when 17th ranked Lille Metropole (3-9) was defeated at home by ninth ranked JL Bourg (7-5) 73-63 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by JL Bourg. Lille Metropole was better in fourth quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. JL Bourg dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Lille Metropole's 26. JL Bourg forced 19 Lille Metropole turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard O'Darien Bassett (189-86, college: Troy) who scored 14 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). point guard Simon Darnauzan (178-80) chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Four JL Bourg players scored in double figures. JL Bourg's coach Frederic Sarre used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Cape Verdean-Portuguese forward Ivan Almeida (197-89, college: Stonehill) who recorded 18 points and 7 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) and American power forward John Fields (205-88, college: Tennessee) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively. JL Bourg moved-up to fifth place, which they share with St Quentin and Evreux. Loser Lille Metropole dropped to the sixteenth position with nine games lost. JL Bourg will face Saint Vallier (#10) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Lille Metropole will play against the league's leader SO Maritime Boulogne (#1) in Boulogne-sur-Mer and hope to win that game.
