There was no surprise when 10th ranked Saitama Broncos (2-11) were defeated on the road by eighth ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (4-7) 82-76 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 12 points after three quarters before their 30-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tokyo Cinq R. made 7 blocks. The game was also dominated by American players. Swingman Ricky Woods (194-84, college: SE Louisiana) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Power forward Edward Morris (205-84, college: Pittsburg St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 25 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Tokyo Cinq R. players scored in double figures. Swingman John Humphrey (188-80, college: Middle Tenn.St.) produced 45 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Michael Joiner (200-81, college: Florida St.) added 6 points and 12 rebounds respectively for lost side. The victory was the third consecutive win for Tokyo Cinq R.. They maintain eighth place with 4-7 record. Saitama Broncos lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 11 games lost. Tokyo Cinq R. will face Sendai 89ers (#9) on the road in the next round. Saitama Broncos will play against Shinshu BW and hope to win that game.
