Regular Season Round 9: Grindavik - Keflavik 64-84

An interesting game for Keflavik (8-1) which played road game in Grindavik against 3rd placed Grindavik (5-4). First ranked Keflavik had an easy win 84-64. It looked good early as Grindavik took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Keflavik had a 21-12 second period charge getting the lead and Grindavik was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-84. Keflavik dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Grindavik's 24 and made 19-of-23 charity shots (82.6 percent) during the game. American guard Porsche Landry (155-89, college: Houston) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners and the former international forward Bryndis Gudmundsdottir (178-88) chipped in 24 points and 13 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Palina Gunnlaugsdottir (168-87) with 22 points and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and American forward Lauren Oosdyke (180-90, college: N.Colorado) scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Grindavik's coach Jon Edvaldsson tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Defending champion maintains first place with 8-1 record. Grindavik at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with Haukar. Keflavik will play against Valur (#6) in Reykjavik in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Grindavik will play on the road against Haukar in Hafnarfjordur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
