Regular Season Round 6: Wildcats - Taipans 75-68

NBL top team - Perth Wildcats (8-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Cairns Taipans (2-5) 75-68. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-18. But Cairns Taipans won second period 18-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American swingman James Ennis (201-90, college: Long Beach St.) who led his team to a victory with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international point guard Damian Martin (186-84, college: Loyola Mary) contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Perth Wildcats' coach Trevor Gleeson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international swingman Stephen Weigh (198-87) replied with 10 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Demetri McCamey (191-89, college: Illinois) added 13 points and 4 assists in the effort for Cairns Taipans. Perth Wildcats have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-0 record. Cairns Taipans lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with five games lost. Perth Wildcats' next round opponent will be Kings (#3) in Sydney, which may be the game of the day. Cairns Taipans will play at home against Wollongong Hawks and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
