Regular Season Round 15: Soles - Gigantes 86-61

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Soles as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Soles smashed 12th ranked Gigantes in Mexicali 86-61. They outrebounded Gigantes 44-30 including 34 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. A Perez contributed with 16 points and 6 assists for the winners. Four Soles players scored in double figures. American-Puerto Rican power forward Angel Alamo (206-85) answered with 18 points and 6 rebounds and Michael Darren added 11 points and 10 assists in the effort for Gigantes. Gigantes' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Soles have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Gigantes lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Corr.Victoria. Gigantes will play next round against strong Pioneros trying to get back on the winning streak. Soles will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Abejas at Guanajuato.
