Regular Season Round 15: Pioneros - Abejas 92-74

Round 15 in LNBP means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Cancun where host Pioneros (10-3) beat league's leader Abejas (10-4) 92-74 on Thursday evening. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Pioneros. Abejas managed to win third quarter 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Abejas outrebounded Pioneros 42-26 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) who scored 26 points and 4 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). The former international forward Hector Hernandez (206-85, college: Fresno St.) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was Venezuelan Nestor Colmenares (203-87, college: Campbellsville) who recorded 19 points and 8 rebounds and American power forward Bilal Dixon (206-90, college: Towson) added 9 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Four Abejas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneros have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Abejas at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Soles. Abejas will play next round against league's leader Soles trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Pioneros will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked Gigantes in Toluca.
