Regular Season Round 13: Chalons-Reims - Denain 88-81
Date: November 15, 2013
Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Denain Voltaire (6-7) lost on the road to second ranked Chalons-Reims (9-3) 88-81 on Friday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-16. But Denain Voltaire won third quarter 24-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Chalons-Reims shot 61.2 percent from the field and made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Chalons-Reims had a 24-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Quite impressive performance for American forward Ronald Slay (203-81, college: Tennessee, agency: David Lee services) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international power forward Sacha Giffa (202-77) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Chalons-Reims' coach Nikola Antic used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American point guard Maurice Acker (176-87, college: Marquette) answered with 31 points (made all of his eight free throws) and the other American import forward Brandon Brown (201-85, college: CS San Bernar.) added 17 points in the effort for Denain Voltaire. Five Chalons-Reims and four Denain Voltaire players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Chalons-Reims. They maintain second place with 9-3 record having just three points less than leader Boulogne. Loser Denain Voltaire dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Chalons-Reims will face Aix-Maurienne (#8) in Aix-les-Bains in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Denain Voltaire will play at home against Saint-Quentin and hope to win that game.
