Date: November 16, 2013
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Jaysh (#3) and Al Ahli (#8). Al Ahli was crushed at home by 28 points 80-108 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Al Jaysh dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Al Ahli's 40. They outrebounded Al Ahli 51-31 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Jaysh players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Al Ahli's players. American forward Shawn Taggart (207-85, college: Memphis) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import guard Devan Downey (175-87, college: S.Carolina) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Four Al Jaysh players scored in double figures. Al Jaysh's coach Beau Archibald felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Nigerian power forward Alvin Mofunanya (203-87, college: Fair Dickinson) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and Venezuelan point guard Calvin Cage (183-84, college: Buffalo, agency: Prossin Sports Management Inc.) added 23 points and 7 assists in the effort for Al Ahli. Despite that victory Al Jaysh went down to fifth position due to points difference, which they share with Al Khor. Al Ahli lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the eighth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Al Shamal and Qatar. Al Jaysh's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Shamal.
