There was a minor upset when second-best Brindisi (3-2) lost on the road to fourth ranked Catania (4-2) 72-62 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-62. Catania outrebounded Brindisi 35-21 including a 31-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Catania especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. It was a good game for Czech center Renata Brezinova (190-90) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Enrica Pavia (176-89) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Catania players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Valentina Siccardi (182-82) replied with 27 points and 5 rebounds and forward Marzia Tagliamento (179-96) added 9 points in the effort for Brindisi. Catania moved-up to third place in Center-South. Brindisi at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Catania will have a break next round. Brindisi will play at home against the league's second-placed Min.Battipaglia (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
