Rather expected game in Melbourne where 6th ranked Canberra Capitals (3-6) were defeated by third ranked Bulleen Boomers (7-1) 66-62 on Saturday. Canberra Capitals were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Bulleen Boomers dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Canberra Capitals' 24. Bulleen Boomers forced 25 Canberra Capitals turnovers and had a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Canberra Capitals were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for guard Rebecca Allen (185-92) who led her team to a victory scoring 10 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. American forward Chelsea Poppens (188-91, college: Iowa St.) helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side the former international guard Jessica Bibby (169-79) responded with 22 points and naturalized British center Alex Bunton (198-93, college: Wichita St.) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Bulleen Boomers. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Bendigo S. Loser Canberra Capitals keep the sixth place with six games lost. Bulleen Boomers will face Sydney Uni Flames (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Canberra Capitals will play against Logan Thunder in Loganholme and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
