Regular Season Round 7: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel Holon 95-75

Winner League top team - Maccabi Haifa (5-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifth ranked Hapoel Holon (3-3) 95-75. It looked good early as Hapoel Holon took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi Haifa had a 25-13 second period charge getting the lead and Hapoel Holon was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 75-95. Maccabi Haifa made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Maccabi Haifa outrebounded Hapoel Holon 45-26 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 61.9 percentage. Maccabi Haifa players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (200-83, college: SE Illinois JC) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 rebounds. American-Nigerian forward Ike Ofoegbu (205-85, college: SMU) contributed with 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Naturalized American power forward Isaac Rosefelt (204-85, college: St.Thomas) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and American Brian Asbury (200-86, college: Miami, FL) added 17 points in the effort for Hapoel Holon. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Maccabi Haifa have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-1 record. Hapoel Holon at the other side dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Maccabi Haifa's next round opponent will be Ironi Nes-Ziona (#3) in Nes Ziyona, which may be the game of the day. Hapoel Holon will play at home against Maccabi Ashdod and hope to win that game.
