Regular Season Round 14: Sendai 89ers - Tokyo Cinq R. 102-86

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (4-8) lost on the road to ninth ranked Sendai 89ers (5-9) 102-86 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Sendai 89ers. Tokyo Cinq R. was better in second period 28-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sendai 89ers made 7 blocks. American players dominated the game. Travele Travel (203-88, college: Texas Southern) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Wendell Wendell (198-84, college: UNLV) contributed with 23 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Sendai 89ers' coach Shuto Kawachi used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Ricky Woods (194-84, college: SE Louisiana) replied with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 13 rebounds and center Anthony Stover (208-90, college: UCLA) added 15 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Tokyo Cinq R.Five Sendai 89ers and four Tokyo Cinq R. players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers moved-up to eighth place. Loser Tokyo Cinq R. dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round. Tokyo Cinq R. will play on the road against Shiga L-Stars (#5) and hope to win that game.
