Regular Season Round 6: Apollon Patras - Aris 76-78

There was a minor upset when higher ranked Apollon Patras (3-3) was edged at home by ninth ranked Aris (3-3) 78-76 on Monday. Apollon Patras trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 23-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 76-78 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was Cypriot-Bulgarian Aleksandar Vezenkov (203-95, college: Xavier) who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Ioannis Athineou (194-88, agency: FCM) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Four Aris players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard P.J. Hill jr. (182-87, college: Ohio St.) who recorded 23 points and his fellow American import forward Lenny Daniel (203-87, college: CS Northridge) added 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) respectively. Aris moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Apollon Patras. Aris will face league's second-placed Panathinaikos in Athens in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Apollon Patras will play on the road against the league's leader Olympiacos in Athens and hope to win that game.
