Regular Season Round 7: Snaefell - Valur 107-91

Rather expected game in Stykkisholmur where 10th ranked Valur (1-6) was defeated by seventh ranked Snaefell (4-3) 107-91. The game was mostly controlled by Snaefell. Valur was better in third quarter 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 22-of-26 charity shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Snaefell players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Valur helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Vance Cooksey (183-87, college: Pikeville) who led the winners and scored 38 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 7 assists. International forward Jon Olafur Jonsson (199-81) accounted for 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. American forward Chris Woods (195-89, college: Pfeiffer) came up with 40 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and guard Runar Ingi Erlingsson (187-89) added 17 points and 5 assists respectively for Valur in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Snaefell. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Haukar and Thor Thorl. Newly promoted Valur keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Snaefell's next round opponent will be Stjarnan (#8) at home. Valur will play against Skallagrimur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
