Regular Season Round 17: Abejas - Huracanes 103-100

Seventh-ranked Huracanes (7-6) gave a tough game to third ranked Abejas (11-5) in Guanajuato on Thursday. Abejas managed to secure only three-point victory 103-100. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Huracanes. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 103-100. Abejas outrebounded Huracanes 34-22 including 21 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan Nestor Colmenares (203-87, college: Campbellsville) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-89, college: W.Kentucky) chipped in 25 points. American swingman Cliff Tucker (198, college: Maryland) produced 22 points and 6 assists and the other American import center Elbert Fuqua (211-83, college: UTSA) added 19 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Abejas and five Huracanes players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Abejas maintains third place with 11-5 record having just -2 point less than leader Soles. Loser Huracanes dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Abejas will meet at home Correcaminos (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Huracanes will play against Gigantes (#12) in Toluca and hope to secure a win.
