Regular Season Round 7: KFI - Grindavik 96-122

There was no surprise in Isafjordur where 10th ranked KFI (1-6) was crushed by fourth ranked Grindavik (5-2) 122-96. The game was mostly controlled by Grindavik. KFI was better in second period 28-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 86 of its points in the paint compared to KFI's 46. Grindavik players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American-Dominican guard Lewis Clinch (191-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: KMG Sports Management) who led the winners and scored 38 points (!!!) and 8 assists. The former international swingman Johann Olafsson (193-86) accounted for 30 points and 4 assists for the winning side. The former international forward Mirko Virijevic (201-81, college: Freed-Hardeman) came up with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) added 23 points and 8 assists respectively for KFI in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Njardvik. KFI at the other side keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Grindavik's next round opponent will be Njardvik (#4) in Njardvik. KFI will play on the road against IR (#9) in Reykjavik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
