Bottom-ranked Maccabi Ashdod managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of five consecutive loses on Friday night. This time they edged eleventh-ranked Maccabi Rishon 78-75. Maccabi Rishon was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Maccabi Ashdod made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Americans were the main players on the court. Xavier Silas (196-88, college: N.Illinois) fired 22 points and 7 assists for the winners. Marcus Dove (206-85, college: Oklahoma St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Vander Blue (200-92, college: Marquette) produced 17 points and forward Tasmin Mitchell (201-86, college: LSU) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Ashdod (2-5) moved-up to eleventh place. Maccabi Rishon lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. Maccabi Ashdod will meet higher ranked Hapoel Holon (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maccabi Rishon will play against Bnei Hasharon (#9) and hope to win that game.
