No shocking result in a game when first ranked Toshiba Thunders (16-2) beat 6th ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (4-14) in Tokyo 91-73 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Toshiba Thunders. Hitachi Sunrockers was better in fourth quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 38-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Toshiba Thunders especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. International swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) contributed with 15 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for the winners. American forward Darius Rice (208-82, college: Miami, FL) answered with 26 points and 6 rebounds and the former international swingman Takuma Watanabe (188-78) added 11 points in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toshiba Thunders have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-2 record. Hitachi Sunrockers lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with 14 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face Tochigi Brex (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Hitachi Sunrockers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tokyo to the arena Toyota Alvark.
