Regular Season Round 8: Kalisz - Polonia W-wa 73-83

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Kalisz (5-3) against eighth ranked Polonia W-wa (4-4) on Saturday night. Host Kalisz was defeated by Polonia W-wa in Kalisz 83-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kalisz. It looked good early as Kalisz took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Polonia W-wa had a 24-19 second period charge getting the lead and Kalisz was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-83. The best player for the winners was Daniel Nieporecki (192-94) who scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Jakub Pawlak (198-93) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Artur Mrowczynski (194-84) produced 19 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Marcin Plawucki (177-89) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Polonia W-wa moved-up to fifth place in Group A, which they share with AZS UMK Torun and GTK Gdynia. Kalisz at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the third position with three games lost. Polonia W-wa's next round opponent will be Basket Pila (#9) at home. Kalisz will play against GTK Gdynia (#7) and hope to win that game.
