Regular Season Round 9: AZS PP - Astoria Bydg. 76-67

There was a small surprise in Poznan where thirteenth ranked AZS PP (2-7) defeated 10th ranked Astoria Bydg. (3-6) 76-67 on Saturday. Astoria Bydg. was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 26-14 charge of AZS PP, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Astoria Bydg.'s 34. They outrebounded Astoria Bydg. 39-23 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Pawel Hybiak (173-89) who scored 21 points and 7 assists. Power forward Maciej Rostalski (198-90) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. AZS PP's coach Waldemar Mendel used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Mateusz Bierwagen (196-88, agency: Promotex) who recorded 23 points and Marcin Kowalewski (200-86) added 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) respectively. Four Astoria Bydg. players scored in double figures. AZS PP moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with MCKiS Jaworz. Loser Astoria Bydg. keeps the tenth position with six games lost. AZS PP will face higher ranked Kutno (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
