Regular Season Round 5: Mitsubishi K. - Hitachi Cougars 88-57

Bottom-ranked Hitachi Cougars (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 88-57 loss to fifth ranked Mitsubishi K. (3-2) in Nagoya. The game without a history. Mitsubishi K. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Cougars' 30. Mitsubishi K. forced 20 Hitachi Cougars turnovers. International center Enjin Wantsu (189-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Yasuko Hashimoto (163-82) contributed with 10 points and 5 assists for the winners. Aiko Ishihara (178-92) answered with 11 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Ariyama Keiko (172-88) added 7 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Hitachi Cougars. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mitsubishi K. maintains fifth place with 3-2 record, which they share with Fujitsu RW. Hitachi Cougars lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Yamanashi QB and Ebara Vickies. Mitsubishi K. will again play against Hitachi Cougars (#11) in Hitachinaka in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Hitachi Cougars will have a break next round.
