Regular Season Round 16: Hamamatsu P. - Okinawa GK 64-77

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Mikawa. First ranked Okinawa GK faced 3rd ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix. Guests from Okinawa (12-2) defeated host Hamamatsu Phoenix (8-6) 77-64. It looked good early as Hamamatsu Phoenix took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Okinawa GK had a 29-10 second period charge getting the lead and Hamamatsu Phoenix was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-77. Okinawa GK made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Hamamatsu Phoenix turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Hamamatsu Phoenix helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American guard Draelon Burns (194-85, college: De Paul) who scored that evening 26 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!) and the other American import center Jeff Newton (205-81, college: Indiana) supported him with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Even 19 points and 4 steals by point guard Oishi Shinnosuke (174-87) did not help to save the game for Hamamatsu Phoenix. American forward Ray Nixon (203-84, college: Wisconsin) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Okinawa GK have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-2 record, which they share with Toyama Grouses. Hamamatsu Phoenix at the other side keeps the third place with six games lost. Okinawa GK will have a break next round. Hamamatsu Phoenix will play against Bambitious Nara and hope to win that game.
