A very interesting game took place in Azpeitia. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 11th ranked Zornotza (3-5) to twelfth ranked Azpeitia (2-5) 71-70 on Sunday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zornotza won third quarter 17-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Azpeitia dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Zornotza's 30. Azpeitia forced 19 Zornotza turnovers. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian center Gediminas Zyle (210-88) who scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Swingman Ibon Guridi (193-92) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Azpeitia's coach Iker Bueno allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Ibon Carreto (198-84) produced 26 points and 9 rebounds and Trinidad and Tobago center Kyle Rowley (213-90, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 13 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Azpeitia maintains twelfth position with 2-5 record. Zornotza lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh place with five games lost. Azpeitia's next round opponent will be league's leader Fuenlabrada in Madrid and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
