Very important is a road loss of second ranked Hapoel Eilat (5-3) against fifth ranked Maccabi T-A (5-3) on Monday night. Visiting Hapoel Eilat was defeated by Maccabi T-A in a tough game in Tel-Aviv 79-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hapoel Eilat. Hapoel Eilat was ahead by 3 points after three quarters before a 26-19 charge of Maccabi T-A, which allowed them to win the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by international Guy Pnini (201-83) who scored that evening 22 points and Greek center Sofoklis Schortsanitis (206-85) supported him with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A's coach David Blatt allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 21 points and 6 rebounds by American forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) did not help to save the game for Hapoel Eilat. His fellow American import Terrence Roderick (196-88, college: UAB, agency: Interperformances) added 17 points and 5 assists for the guests. Maccabi T-A moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Hapoel Eilat. Maccabi T-A will play against Hapoel Jerusalem (#4) on the road in the next round. Hapoel Eilat will play against Maccabi Rishon and hopes to get back on the winning track.
