Regular Season Round 7: Ramat Hasharon - Elizur Ashkelon 95-87

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Ironi Ashkelon (2-5) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Ramat Hasharon (4-3) 95-87. It looked good early as Ironi Ashkelon took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ramat Hasharon had a 24-21 second period charge getting the lead and Ironi Ashkelon was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 87-95. Ramat Hasharon dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Ironi Ashkelon's 44. Ramat Hasharon had a 27-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Donald Rutherford (199-87, college: Catawba) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds (on 14-of-17 shooting from the field). His fellow American import guard Joshua Alexander (195-87, college: SF Austin) accounted for 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Naturalized American forward Jermaine Hall (196-80, college: Wagner) came up with 21 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Casey Mitchell (193-88, college: W.Virginia) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Ironi Ashkelon in the defeat. Four Ironi Ashkelon players scored in double figures. Ramat Hasharon moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Ironi Ashkelon at the other side dropped to the twelfth position with five games lost. Ramat Hasharon's next round opponent will be Ironi Ramat Gan (#11) at home and are hoping to win another game. Ironi Ashkelon will play against Elitzur Ramla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
