Regular Season Round 7: TianJin S. - Guangdong ST 95-97

Important game to mention about took place in Tianjin. Leader Guandong Tigers (7-0) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 11th ranked TianJin Steel (3-4) 97-95 on Wednesday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-19. But TianJin Steel won second period 23-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely TianJin Steel outrebounded Guandong Tigers 48-26 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. TianJin Steel was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for international Jianlian Yi (212-87) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 23 rebounds. American guard Khalif Wyatt (193-91, college: Temple) accounted for 25 points for the winning side. American forward Shelden Williams (206-83, college: Duke) came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and the other American import point guard Sebastian Telfair (183-85) added 22 points respectively for TianJin Steel in the defeat. Four Guandong Tigers and five TianJin Steel players scored in double figures. Guandong Tigers have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-0 record. TianJin Steel at the other side keeps the eleventh position with four games lost. They share it with DongGuan L.. Guandong Tigers will play against league's second-placed Beijing Ducks on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. TianJin Steel will play against Foshan (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
