Regular Season Round 8: Snaefell - Stjarnan 85-107
Date: November 28, 2013
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when eighth ranked Stjarnan (4-3) crushed 7th ranked Snaefell (4-4) in Stykkisholmur 107-85. The game was mostly controlled by Stjarnan. Snaefell was better in third quarter 29-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Stjarnan players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Junior Hairston (203-84, college: Towson, agency: KMG Sports Management) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 16 rebounds. Marvin Valdimarsson (198-81) chipped in 29 points and 7 rebounds. American point guard Vance Cooksey (183-87, college: Pikeville) produced 30 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international guard Palmi Sigurgeirsson (190-78) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Snaefell's coach Ingi Thor Steinthorsson gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Stjarnan moved-up to fifth place. Snaefell at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Stjarnan's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Valur (#12) in Reykjavik and are hoping to win another game. Snaefell will play on the road against KFI (#10) in Isafjordur and hope to win that game.
