Regular Season Round 8: Breakers - Tigers 84-74

There was a small surprise in Auckland where sixth ranked New Zealand Breakers (4-6) defeated one of their biggest challengers Melbourne Tigers (4-6) 84-74 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-74. The best player for the winners was Fijian-New Zealand forward Mika Vukona (198-82) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 17 rebounds and 8 assists. New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Canadian center Scott Morrison (213-86, college: Portland St.) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds and the former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) added 23 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Melbourne Tigers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tigers. Melbourne Tigers lost third consecutive game. New Zealand Breakers will face again Melbourne Tigers (#5) on the road in the next round.
