Very predictable result when third ranked Pioneros (12-5) won against 11th ranked Angeles (4-6) in Cancun 97-90 on Thursday. Angeles trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 26-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 90-97 at the end of the game. Pioneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Angeles' players. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Robert Hornsby (201-82, college: Troy) who led the winners and scored 28 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Hector Hernandez (206-85, college: Fresno St.) accounted for 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Five Pioneros players scored in double figures. American forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield) came up with 26 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Luis Ramirez (180-82) added 19 points respectively for Angeles in the defeat. Angeles' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pioneros moved-up to second place, which they share with Abejas. Newly promoted Angeles keep the eleventh position with six games lost. Pioneros will meet at home bottom-ranked Gansos (#14) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Angeles will play against the league's leader Soles in Mexicali and hope to secure a win.
