Regular Season Round 8: 36ers - Hawks 82-81

Very expected game in Findon where 7th ranked Wollongong Hawks (2-7) were edged by second ranked Adelaide 36ers (8-2) 82-81 on Friday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-19. But Wollongong Hawks won second period 23-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Wollongong Hawks 48-31 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was international power forward Daniel Johnson (212-88, college: Pepperdine) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. American point guard Gary Ervin (183-83, college: Arkansas) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Adelaide 36ers' coach Joey Wright used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Rhys Martin (184-86, college: Nova SE) produced 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) added 19 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Four Wollongong Hawks players scored in double figures. Adelaide 36ers have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-2 record having just three points less than leader Wildcats. Wollongong Hawks at the other side keep the seventh place with seven games lost. Adelaide 36ers will face bottom-ranked Cairns Taipans (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Wollongong Hawks will play against Kings and hope to win that game.
