Regular Season Round 8: Qingdao E. - Sichuan BW 103-107

Bottom-ranked Sichuan BW managed to get a second victory. This time newly promoted Sichuan BW won against sixteenth-ranked Qingdao Eagles 107-103. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 34-22. But Qingdao Eagles won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sichuan BW made 31-of-37 charity shots (83.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Qingdao Eagles turnovers. Strangely Qingdao Eagles outrebounded Sichuan BW 43-28 including 16 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Qingdao Eagles were plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by Nigerian-American guard Michael Efevberha (193-84, college: CS Northridge) who scored that evening 35 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 7 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and American D.J. White (206-86, college: Indiana) supported him with 27 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Even 43 points (!!!) by Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) did not help to save the game for Qingdao Eagles. Palestinian center Sani Sakakini (204-88) added 15 points and 18 rebounds for the hosts. Four Sichuan BW and five Qingdao Eagles players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Sichuan BW (2-6) moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Jiangsu D. and Jilin NE T. Qingdao Eagles at the other side dropped to the seventeenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Shanxi Zh.. Sichuan BW will play against higher ranked Shandong Bulls (#7) in Jinan in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Qingdao Eagles will have a break next round.
