Regular Season Round 9: Netanya - Maccabi Haifa 71-88

Winner League top team - Maccabi Haifa (6-3) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat seventh ranked GreenTops Netanya (4-5) 88-71. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi Haifa. GreenTops Netanya was better in third quarter 20-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Haifa dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to GreenTops Netanya's 34. Maccabi Haifa looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (200-83, college: SE Illinois JC) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners and Venezuelan point guard David Cubillan (181-87, college: Marquette) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Dawan Robinson (188-82, college: Rhode Island) with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import power forward Rashaun Freeman (206-84, college: Massachusetts) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 6-3 record, which they share with Ironi Nes-Ziona and Hapoel J-M. Loser GreenTops Netanya dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Maccabi Haifa will face Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. GreenTops Netanya will play against the league's leader Hapoel Jerusalem and hope to win that game.
