Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Cortegada (2-4) lost to second ranked Maquinaria Ensino (5-1) in Lugo 62-78 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Maquinaria Ensino. Cortegada was better in third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maquinaria Ensino dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Cortegada's 24 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Cortegada 43-28 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for power forward Veronica Matoso (185-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Mireia Navarrete (184-80) contributed with 24 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Maquinaria Ensino's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Montserrat Gilabert (172-80) replied with 27 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Andrea Rios (187-91) added 8 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Cortegada. Maquinaria Ensino keeps a position of Group A leader, which they share with Al-Qazeres and Ferrol. Loser Cortegada keeps the eighth place with four games lost. Maquinaria Ensino will face Cafe Barco (#6) in Badajoz in the next round where they are favorite. Cortegada will play at home against Aros Leon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
