Regular Season Round 20: Pioneros - Gansos 99-77
Date: November 30, 2013
Bottom-ranked Gansos (0-19) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their 19th consecutive match to second ranked Pioneros (13-5) 99-77 on Saturday evening. The game without a history. Pioneros led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Gansos' 46. They outrebounded Gansos 46-23 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pioneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Gansos' players. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Stephen Soriano (201-84, college: Colorado Mesa) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and Panamanian power forward Jose Lloreda (203-80, college: LSU) who added 16 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Pioneros' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American CamRon Clay (203-82) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Harrison Smith (190, college: Texas Southern) scored 21 points. Five Pioneros and four Gansos players scored in double figures. Pioneros maintains second position with 13-5 record having just -2 point less than leader Soles, which they share with Abejas. Gansos at the other side still closes the standings. Pioneros is looking forward to face Lechugueros (#10) in Leon in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gansos will play at home against Correcaminos (#13) and hope to get finally their first victory.
