Regular Season Round 9: Hapoel Eilat - Maccabi Rishon 69-72

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Hapoel Eilat (5-4) against eleventh ranked Maccabi Rishon (3-6) on Sunday night. Host Hapoel Eilat was edged by Maccabi Rishon in a tough game in Eilat 69-72. Hapoel Eilat was ahead by 4 points after three quarters before a 18-11 charge of Maccabi Rishon, which allowed them to win the game. They outrebounded Hapoel Eilat 46-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a good game for power forward James Thomas (205-80, college: Texas) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Tasmin Mitchell (201-86, college: LSU) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Maccabi Rishon's coach Matan Harush used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) answered with 19 points and 6 rebounds and forward Christian Watford (206-91, college: Indiana) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Hapoel Eilat. Four Maccabi Rishon and five Hapoel Eilat players scored in double figures. Maccabi Rishon moved-up to tenth place. Hapoel Eilat at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Maccabi Rishon's next round opponent will be higher ranked Maccabi T-A (#3) in Tel-Aviv and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hapoel Eilat will play on the road against Hapoel Holon and hope to win that game.
