The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Unicaja Malaga's (6-2) home victory over 6th ranked CB Canarias (4-4) 88-73 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Unicaja Malaga. CB Canarias managed to win third quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Unicaja Malaga made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. Unicaja Malaga outrebounded CB Canarias 42-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by American-Azerbaijani forward Niklas Caner-Medley (203-83, college: Maryland, agency: Beo Basket) who scored that evening 15 points and 8 rebounds and Slovenian swingman Zoran Dragic (196-89) supported him with 18 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Even 13 points and 6 rebounds by American forward Lucas Sikma (203-89, college: Portland) did not help to save the game for CB Canarias. Montenegrin center Blagota Sekulic (209-82) added 16 points for the guests. Four CB Canarias players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to third place, which they share with FCB Regal. Loser CB Canarias dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. They share it with Cajasol and CAI Zaragoza. Unicaja Malaga will meet at home Regal FC Barcelona (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. CB Canarias will play against the league's leader Real Madrid (#1) and hope to secure a win.
