Regular Season Round 9: Zornotza - Castello 59-66

Date: December 1, 2013
Rather expected game in Amorebieta-Echano where 11th ranked Zornotza (3-6) was defeated by eighth ranked Castello (4-4) 66-59 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zornotza won third quarter 15-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Castello made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Zornotza turnovers. Strangely Zornotza outrebounded Castello 52-32 including a 38-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Power forward Alberto Ausina (203-81) stepped up and scored 9 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and point guard Joan Faner (176-90) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. Castello's coach Toni Ten used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Trinidad and Tobago center Kyle Rowley (213-90, college: St.Mary's, CA) with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 20 rebounds and Chadian forward Djimadoum Bandoumel (203-85, college: Idaho) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Zornotza players scored in double figures. Castello moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Marin. Zornotza lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with six games lost. Castello will face league's leader Fuenlabrada in Madrid in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
